Are you wondering what to wear to your personal branding or corporate photo shoot? I’m an Atlanta-based photographer who works with clients on personal branding and corporate photo shoots. But, in all honesty, my background is in fashion! I attended fashion school while living in Europe. My background has provided me with the extensive knowledge needed to help my clients curate their attire in front of the camera. And, because it’s one of the most common things I discuss with my clients before their sessions, I wanted to provide you with my top tips on what to wear for your personal branding or corporate photo shoot, in the article below.
Bring Multiple Outfit Options
I cannot stress this enough! You should come to your personal branding or corporate photo shoot with an option of at least two to three outfits you’d like to wear. Having multiple choices allows me to help you style different pieces together. But also, allows us to play around with the selection of colors in your wardrobe to see what might look best in front of the camera. While I love to provide my clients with outfit inspiration prior to their arrival, our work is not done until the day of the shoot. A variety of outfits paired with layering details such as ties and belts will help us elevate your look!
What to Avoid
As you can imagine, the list of things to avoid is pretty extensive. You would be surprised how easily the smallest element on a piece of clothing can detract from providing you with the best personal branding or corporate photos! So here it is: avoid red as a dominant color, clothing with logs & branding, white shirts (unless used as a layering piece), and clothing with patterns including stripes. Lastly, you’ll want to avoid glitter, sparklers rhinestones, and sequins.
Need More Specifics?
Basic is best when it comes to what to wear to your personal branding or corporate photo shoot. Clean crisp solid color shirts and blouses are always a good option for keeping your photos focused on you. Additionally, for men, blue, gray, or black suits or sports coats are a wonderful option for elevating your photos to a more professional look!
What About Hair and Makeup?
Hair and makeup choices can be equally as important as your attire when capturing your personal branding or corporate photo shoot! First and foremost, for those wearing makeup, you should go for a look that is clean and natural. Heavy makeup can photograph poorly. One of my favorite makeup tools is translucent powder! It’s simple and effective for reducing shine, minimizing pores, and giving your skin tone a beautiful and even look. Worried you might have a break out during your photo shoot? Blemishes can easily be removed in the retouching process!
As with clothing, avoid using any makeup products that have a shimmer or sparkler to them. Men should come to their photo shoot with a tube of lip balm to keep their lips looking freshly moisturized. When it comes to hair, keep it simple. There is no need to “over style” or use every hair product in your arsenal. The last big tip I can provide you with in order to prepare you for your personal branding or corporate photo shoot is to avoid the use of any new products on your face in the days leading up to your session!
