I often talk about capturing headshots for models and actors in my studio. As well as using the gorgeous landscape of the city for the various clients I work with. And while I love having my clients in the studio, you might be surprised to know, that doesn’t work for every industry. You see, the thing is, some businesses are immovable. Some businesses rely on the very building, courthouse, or warehouse they reside in. Other times, businesses have immovable machinery, tools, equipment, and props. All of which exist for the sole purpose of the service they provide. So how do I capture their visual brand photography & headshots when they work at, say, a studio or a dental office? I travel to them, of course!
The visual brand photography that I create for my clients shows off the very service they provide. While working to instill a sense of trust in their patients, clients, and colleagues. Can you imagine what a headshot of a dentist would look like outside of their office? It might come across as stiff or even confusing. Which could turn away any potential patients who land on their website. If you’re on the hunt for a new dentist in your area, chances are you’ll be searching for one who looks friendly, and trustworthy. One who will have your best interest at heart. Could you imagine clicking on the website of a dentist in your area, only to find a headshot that looks professionally posed? Similar to one a real estate agent may use? Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with headshots for realtors.
But, what works for one specific industry, does not work for the next. A dentist needs photos of themselves in action, from the comfort of their practice! Conversely, they also need headshots next to their “tools of the trade”. This type of visual brand photography works to convey trust. Sounds like such a big word and expectation just from a photo, doesn’t it? But a business’s first visual impression is going to attract or compel their potential clients, or in this case patients. So visually branded photography needs to do a whole lot of talking on their behalf!
While headshots can be taken anywhere, I love traveling to my client’s workspace, to capture their visual brand photography & headshots, for that reason, and many more. Being present in their space gives me a hands-on feel for what they do. I also get to see where they do it, and how they do it! This process puts me in the shoes of their clients, patients, and the people they work and interact with on a daily basis. This allows me to hone in on the key aspects of their industry while capturing it all!
Next, I know my clients will be more at ease in their natural environment. They work in this space each and every day, and they navigate their industry and the space around them with ease. When my clients are at ease, doing what they know and love, their personality comes to life in front of the camera. Which is pure magic for visual brand photography!
